Partner - Head of Professional Indemnity

Mark’s practice focusses on defending professional negligence claims on behalf of insurers and their insureds. He works for a range of professionals including lawyers, valuers, surveyors, accountants, engineers, insurance brokers and other financial professionals.

Mark also regularly advises on coverage issues arising from professional indemnity and financial institutions policies.

Mark has been recognised as an expert in professional indemnity insurance by Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession and Legal 500.

Mark joined Carter Perry Bailey as a Partner in 2015 to lead the firm’s Professional Risks and Financial Lines team.

He has practised in the professional indemnity and financial risks sector since 1991. He began his career in a leading national firm’s insurance team, handling claims against a range of professional firms to include solicitors, barristers, accountants, valuers, surveyors, architects, insurance brokers and other financial institutions.

His solicitors’ practice has encompassed working for the Insurers to the Master Policy, the Solicitors Indemnity Fund Limited, and open market insurers. He led a team acting for SIF in the managed lenders claims brought by Bristol & West and subsequently Halifax.

More recently his work has included the defence of substantial group litigation and he has been involved in the litigation arising from such major market issues as PPI mis-selling, VWF/miner’s claims and mortgage fraud.

He continues to act for a number of Lloyd’s and London Market insurers in defending claims across a range of professions, and advises on coverage issues on professional indemnity, financial institutions and D&O policies.

Mark is experienced in appellate work and representing clients at mediation and other forms of ADR. Alongside his professional indemnity defence practice, Mark also acts in defending professionals in regulatory and disciplinary proceedings brought by regulators and governing bodies.

Mark also works with insurers and insurance brokers in drafting policy wordings to fit the needs of professional firms and financial institutions.
