Stephen Carter - Partner
BA (Hons, Dunelm), MCIArb. Admitted as a solicitor in 1980.
Stephen's work has focussed on the insurance and reinsurance industry for over 25 years, the last 18 of which were as Head of the Insurance and Reinsurance Group at solicitors Charles Russell LLP. At Carter Perry Bailey he has accepted the role of managing partner. Stephen has also worked as in-house lawyer to a leading run-off management group. His practice covers a wide range of insurance/reinsurance disputes, including litigation and arbitration, often international. He is qualified as a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He also advises on policy and contract wordings, run-off and finality solutions including schemes of arrangement, agency issues, coverage, contractual and regulatory issues. Stephen is rated in Chambers guide as a leader in the field of reinsurance and is listed in the Guide to the World's Leading Insurance and Reinsurance Lawyers. He is a board member of the Association of Insurance and Reinsurance Service Providers and a director of Community Reinsurance Corporation Ltd. He is a member of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel, where he is Vice-chair of the International Practice and Law Section, an International Committee member and a member of the Reinsurance and Surplus Lines Section and the ADR Section. He is a member of the International Insurance Society, the London Court of International Arbitration, the Institute of Art and Law and the British Institute of International and Comparative Law.
