International Arbitration

The members of Carter Perry Bailey are used to handling the complex fact circumstances and relationships of different systems of law that arise in international arbitration. Much of this work has arisen in the field of insurance and reinsurance, where members have been involved in a wide range of disputes from latent damage reinsurance coverage issues under a 20 year programme involving some 200 reinsurers, to an insurance regulatory arbitration in Kosovo. Members have acted in overseas arbitration involving London market and English law issues, and in English arbitration involving overseas laws and markets. One such international commercial arbitration involving the law of Pakistan (including Sharia laws) became a leading case on international arbitration law in the Pakistan courts. Stephen Carter has also given advice to an overseas government in relation to its arbitration legislation. Carter Perry Bailey's lawyers also have experience of acting in US Arbitrations. The firm's extensive international contacts facilitates the formation of international legal teams so often needed where multiple legal systems are relevant to the issues and processes of an international arbitration.

Stephen Carter and Bill Perry are both qualified as Members of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and have both lectured internationally on arbitration issues.
