Bill Perry

Bill was elected as the first Senior Partner of Carter Perry Bailey on the firm's formation in 2009. He had previously been Senior Partner (and Head of Litigation) of Pickering Kenyon (then the oldest firm of solicitors in England and the only one with a Coat of Arms) before spending 14 years at Charles Russell LLP, the last 8 of which as Head of Litigation and Dispute Resolution. He is currently also (the first non-American in history to be) President-Elect of the International Association of Defense Counsel. (IADC is the world's oldest and one of its most prestigious defense lawyers associations, with about 2,500 invitation-only members in about 35 countries, based in Chicago. He had been a Director from 2007-2010.) Bill is also Vice President of the Benefit Insurance Lawyers Group, CPB's international network of specialist (re-)insurance lawyers.

Bill's practice centres on insurance and reinsurance coverage issues, litigation and arbitration as well as advice on policy wordings. He has practised in the field of insurance and reinsurance since the early 1980s and acts for clients in a wide variety of jurisdictions. He has been a Leading Individual included in Chambers Guide to the UK Legal Profession from 2001 to date, and is recognised by the market and that directory as an expert in the specialist field of fine art insurance (he is a Member of the Institute of Art and Law) and also in London market property/casualty and film finance disputes. In reinsurance he handles a wide range of disputes, whether facultative or treaty, in both litigation and arbitration. His recent reported cases include winning unanimously in the House of Lords for AGF Insurance in AGF Insurance v Lexington Insurance, the landmark 2009 case regarding "back to back" reinsurance.

Bill also has specialist expertise in trust and fiduciary disputes where his experience includes acting for trustees, beneficiaries, charitable trustees, settlers and the disinherited; he is a Member of the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Solicitors.

He is Fellow of the Royal Society for Arts and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
